Message from the Senior Pastor

For nearly two hundred years, our beautiful meeting house has served the Spirit-led ministry of this church and its outreach to the residents of Greater Boston and to countless visitors. Indeed, we have been exceptionally blessed by the vision and generosity of many generations of Park Street Church members and friends, who have given “beyond their ability” to provide our beautiful historic meetinghouse and extensive adjacent facilities. You and I are the beneficiaries of their generosity. It is now our turn to renew our facilities and to prepare for the future.

Given the mission statement of our church, however, the greatest challenge in this campaign is not just to raise the needed funds, as important as that is, but to do so in a way that will deepen our love for Christ, for each other, and for the world.

As we pray for this campaign, may we pray that the greatest achievement of this effort will be that the Lord uses it to teach us not so much what to give, but how to give freely and cheerfully, “for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7), and with great love, for “if I give all I possess…but have not love, I gain nothing” (1 Corinthians 13:3).

Following the good example of our forebears and in preparation for our bicentennial, we are launching a capital campaign to undertake urgently needed repairs and to enhance our facilities for even greater ministry in the coming years. May the Lord, who became poor so that we might become rich, enable us to "excel in this grace of giving" (2 Corinthians 8:7).

Dr. Gordon Hugenberger, Senior Minister
